Eddie 'Seferino' Coleman

WHEN SEFERINO ROCKED THE BELIZEAN AIRWAVES!
by Bilal Morris

The legendary Belizean broadcaster and comic, the late Eddie 'Seferino' Coleman stands out today as Belize's most entertaining broadcaster and comedian of all times. Seferino, as he is known among Belizeans of the 1960's, 70's and 80's, rose to become one of Belize's most articulate broadcasters during the days of the defunked Belize broadcasting institution, Radio Belize.
Not only could Coleman matched some of the best in Caribbean broadcasting being that he was a natural at it, but he could have stood shoulder to shoulder with some of the best Caribbean comedians of his time. Terribly funny, Coleman had the ability to move from serious journalistic presentations to an incredibly entertaining wrap-around that made him Belize's most entertaining broadcaster. He stole the hearts of many Belizeans who grew up under his voice on Radio Belize when radio became the sole medium of communication in Belize in the 1960's and 70's.
Belizean Legends presents this most revealing audio expose on the legendary Belizean entertainer captured in Los Angeles in 1987 at the Westmore Ballroom during one of his frequent visits to the Los Angeles Belizean Community.
A special thanks to Belize Music World through the courtesy of Patrick Barrow who documented the legendary Belizean broadcaster and comedian live at a Mother's Day event in Los Angeles. In this rare appearance in the Belizean diaspora, Seferino acknowledged the importance of the Belizean diaspora in the development of Belize, and brought nostalgia back to Belizeans who showed him much love.
The incredibly funny and entertaining Belizean legend, Sefe, is greatly missed for his wit and extraordinary talent as one who communicated a common theme of unity among Belizeans from all walks of life.

BELIZEAN MUSIC LEGENDS!

PUPA CURLY!

THEN & NOW!

By Bilal Morris

Pupa Curly had not really left the Belizean music scene at all because his new and powerful musical continuation that has recently exploded again with tracks like, "Everywhere Is War" and "Dem a Watch We", comes back with new relevant material for the times.

A popular Belizean recording and performing artist in the 1980s and 90s that exploded on the reggae music scene in Los Angeles, California with his hit tune, "Crack Is A Killer", Pupa Curly has remade himself to fit the explosive times with his unique social conscious music.

Straight out of the Belizean hood from off Belize City's notorious "George Street" on the Southside of Belize City, Belize, this cultural Belizean ambassadorial artist has made a significant statement that legendary Belizeans like himself came right out of the so-called "Long Barracks" of the city of the 1960s and 70s. In this day and time as ghettos around the world are bastardized and stereotyped being depicted as so-called "Projects" as the black ones in the deprived cities of the United States signify, Belize's Pupa Curly has made no bones about the fact that the Belizean Southside neighborhood has been his humble origins. And he has made some critical musical hits like "Rememba" about his upbringing and social standards that reminisces in the song.

In his soon to come feature that you the Belizean Legends audience will hear him discuss such eclectic moments of his life that finds him as a teenager playing basketball in Belize City during his high school years and may not have had one inkling of a thought that he was going to turn out to be this blazing Belizean musical reggae artist that had performed in some of the biggest concerts around southern California. He is a story of the amazing rise of a Belizean migrant to the shores of the U.S. who later found music as an artistic expression of who he is and what it is that he wanted to say about Belize, his people, the times, the struggles of life, and the global politics of the world.

Without giving away all that is concealed in this long awaited discussion with yours truly who followed Pupa Curly's work from a successful Belizean artist to a cutting edge music promoter in the Los Angeles Belizean community, it wouldn't be wise to miss one of the most stimulating and exciting conversations on Belizean Legends.

Enjoy!
